Welcome Home, Mr. President

Gerald R. Ford made his final return home recently, and here in Grand Rapids, Michigan, we welcome our son with open arms.

The nation’s 38th President, one who will likely be remembered most for his pardon of Richard Nixon as well as his unassuming demeanor, was laid to rest on the grounds of his museum and we already miss him.

At the time of his presidency, it was his “I’m a Ford, not a Lincoln” attitude that allowed the country to heal after a tumultuous scandal, and we as a nation should be grateful that such a man was our leader.

Vietnam was just winding down during his time in office, and though many try to draw parallels between Vietnam and Iraq, it is hard to compare Ford with any other president before him or since. We were different then, but the lessons Ford taught still apply today...
